Soul Space

The CrossFit Leixlip Team were in Galway at the first ever Soul Space Experience on September the 22nd .

So much was taken away from this day of thought, reflection and education.

In today’s world, our health is being challenged like never before. We are on the go non-stop in our busy stressful lives, we go for convenience rather than substance and our health both physically and mentally is being compromised because of it.

The aim of Soul Space was to help grow awareness and awaken society on how best we can adapt in this modern world in a more healthy and prosperous way.

How can we heal ourselves, rather than depending on others to heal us? This was discussed throughout the day.

Soul Space showed us the importance, awareness, knowledge and understanding of how the mind, body and spirit are directly linked and connected to the development of our emotional, spiritualphysical and psychological health and wellbeing.

Learn More about the Four Pillars of Vitality.

At Soul Space, their aim is to help you discover the components to create an energised body, an awakened mind and inspired spirit.

The day began with some singing, stillness and meditation. Following that there were Yoga Sessions available, we did a Yin Yoga Practice focusing on healing the fractions in our soul through gentle movement and meditation. Through stretching and breathing in positions really benefits our soul, this is something we would love to bring to CrossFit Leixlip to help interlink the connection between mind and body which is very important in our phycological health. We can train our brains to do just about anything. At a minimum to deal with the demands of modern day life. Through this practice both are bodies joints and our precious mind are being nurtured.

Following Yoga we attended a Q&A on: An integrative approach to Health & Wellness, The truth beyond the Pill and Bridging the gap between conventional and holistic medicine. Dr. Mark Rowe was one of the speakers at this Q & A and spoke about the ability for people to reverse Type 2 Diabetes through the help of GP's, good nutrition and exercise which we have heard about from

We learned of the importance of not depending on medication to cure our ailments and diseases but instead introducing healthy habits into our Lifestyle such as Physical Activity and "a diet of health-inducing vitality is not only conducive to optimal physical health; it also provides the biochemical blueprint for a brilliant life."

Dr. Mark Rowe: Exercise the Greatest Pill of All! - reduces the risk of so many health conditions; providing a much needed boost in energy and vitality. In fact it can be so good for your physical health that it is considered to have anti-ageing properties.

Appreciating the important restorative role that getting enough quality sleep plays in your health and vitality. Not forgetting the importance of rest, relaxation and recharge.

And of course the power of hydration; why drinking enough water can be a real game changer for your energy and focus.

This is where Health IQ comes in !

“- having enough knowledge, awareness and the right attitudes to support informed choices and decisions in terms of your health and vitality. “ – Dr. Mark Rowe.

As recommended by the World Health Organisation on Physical Activity:

  1. Adults aged 18–64 should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week or do at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity.

  2. Aerobic activity should be performed in bouts of at least 10 minutes duration.

  3. For additional health benefits, adults should increase their moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity to 300 minutes per week, or engage in 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity per week, or an equivalent combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity.

  4. Muscle-strengthening activities should be done involving major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week.

It’s amazing as this is the stimulus we intend to follow in CrossFit’s Training Methodology through constantly varied, high intensity functional movements across broad time and modal domains.

The biggest take away from this Experience was that’s it’s true, if one pillar of your Vitality is not inline or is out of sync with the others then you are no longer functioning to your full potential. The four pillars include: Physical Health, Emotional Health, Spiritual Health and Psychological Health.
